Sheila Gale Scott, class of 1966 dies!

Sheila Gale Scott- Cohn High School Class of 1966

Ms. Sheila Gale Scott passed away October 28, 2013. Born March 1, 1948 in Nashville, Tennessee, the daughter of Edgar Floyd and Lillie Cox Scott. She was preceded in death by parents; brother, Homer Scott and sister, Dorothy Scott. She is survived by brother, Dr. Ray Scott; nieces, Pamela Saal (Philip) and Joyce Searcy; nephew, Jeremy Saal and longtime devoted friend, Mary Pennington and her family, Matt Pennington (Kala), Samantha and Brock Pennington. Sheila was a graduate of Cohn High School. She earned her Bachelor's Degree from Middle Tennessee State University, Master's Degree from Tennessee State University, and did advanced graduate study. Her career was in teaching in Metro Nashville. She served on faculties of Kirkpatrick, Old Center, Napier, Park Avenue, and Gower Elementary Schools. At Cora Howe School, she was assistant principal in the Bailey building. In 1986, Sheila studied at the University of California Berkley Campus in a special writing project. Thereafter, she taught many principals and teachers in Metro Writing Workshops. Additionally, she taught at Cumberland University in Lebanon. In 1988, she was honored by being selected Metro Elementary Teacher of the Year. In earlier years, Sheila was an outstanding softball player, very adept at needlework, and artistic in crafts. She loved to play dominoes, cards and games. Her sense of humor and telling "school tales" were enjoyed by family and friends. Ms. Scott was a member of various educational organizations, one of which was the Beta Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma. She was a member of Covenant Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial contributions be made, in her honor, to American Diabetes Association American Diabetes Association , 220 Great Circle Rd #134, Nashville, Tennessee 37228; or the National Kidney Foundation National Kidney Foundation , 30 East 33rd Street, New York, New York 10016. A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, the 30th of October, 2013 at 10:30 a.m., at Mount Olivet Cemetery, with Pastor Steven Meriwether officiating. Visitation with the family will be on Tuesday, the 29th of October, 2013 from 4-8 p.m., at Marshall-Donnelly-Combs Funeral Home. Published in The Tennessean on Oct. 29, 2013
