Allen Pettus, class of 1940 dies!

Allen Pettus- Cohn High Class of 1940

Allen Pettus was in Cohn High's first graduating class of 1940. He was co-editor of the Clarion ( name of the yearbook at that time ) and senior class prophet. Mr. Pettus was also in the Band, Boys' Glee Club. National Honor Society, Drama Club and he was Valedictorian of his class. After graduation he enrolled at David Lipscomb College ( a Jr college at the time ) and graduated in 1942. He then entered the armed services and served for 3 and a half years. While in service he married his High School sweetheart, Dorothy Schell '41 ( Dorothy died five years ago ). Mr. Pettus then went to work for the Tennessean newspaper and after 33 years he retired as assistant to the editor....... PETTUS, Allen W.Age 91 of Nashville, TN. June 17, 2013. Preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy "Dottie" Pettus. Survived by daughter, Patricia "Patty" Pettus; son, Bill (Linda) Pettus; grandchildren, Laura (Chris) Beach and Amy (Robert) Knapke; great granddaughter, Lily Grace Knapke. Funeral service will be conducted 2:30 p.m., Wednesday, June 19, 2013 at Woodbine Funeral Home, HICKORY CHAPEL, 5852 Nolensville Road by Wendell Byrd. Interment Woodlawn Cemetery. Family and Friends will serve as Pallbearers. Visitation Tuesday, 4-8 p.m. and Wednesday, 12 noon til service time at WOODBINE FUNERAL HOME, HICKORY CHAPEL DIRECTORS, (615) 331-1952.
